What is a potato head?

Mr. and Ms. Potato Heads can be built and taken apart again and again. A basic Potato Head comes with a few sets of eyes and mouths, a nose, arms, shoes, and a hat.

Using Mr. & Ms. Potato Heads to help your child’s speech and language development...

You can work on first words like body parts and clothing as well as follow simple directions with the pieces (“give me the eyes.” or “put on his shoes.”). If you use both Mr. and Mrs. it’s fun and easy to work on gender-specific pronouns (he/she/they), objective pronouns (him/her/them) and possessive pronouns (his/hers/theirs). Once outfitted, the Potato family loves to do lots of different things together. You can work on common verbs (“Potato is walking/eating/sleeping”) and answering “what” and “who” questions (“what’s potato doing?” “where is potato going?”). For older toddlers developing more intricate play scenes, Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head also love to go on adventures, where we can enrich language through pretend play themes, like going to the doctor for a check-up, driving to the grocery store, or going to school.
